I am intellectually and emotionally driven to understand and to create. My favorite childhood memories are of time spent with my Dad making things. He is a scientist, so we made radios and magnets, lovely concrete tangible objects that functioned. As a student, I studied the why of things. Why did people do things, and how we understand what they did. Eventually, my love of understanding and making merged into creating pottery.
In my work, I seek to create objects which are functional, but that when held and used create an emotional connection for the person. I am inspired and influenced deeply by nature and the patterns in the world around us. I seek to reflect these challenges in my work, both with shape and color.
